The Bushnell City Council consists of five voting members: Mayor, Vice Mayor and three members each running on four year terms for seats one through five and each having one vote. The Council Chambers are located on the first floor of the Bushnell City Hall at 117 E. Joe P. Strickland, Jr. Avenue.

An affirmative vote of three members is necessary to transact municipal business. The City Council’s regular meetings are held once monthly on the first Monday of the month at 6:00 pm.

The City Council legislate City Ordinances, adopt Resolutions, approve policies, adopt budgets, set the milage rate and conduct other municipal business.

The current Council consists of :

On January 5, 2017 City Attorney, Felix Adams gave the Induction and Oath of Office for the newly elected Bushnell City Officials. Vice-Mayor/Councilman Bill Durham, Seat 2; Councilman Dale Swain, Seat 4; and Christina Dixon, City Clerk were sworn in for another term of office.

The purpose of this committee is to review the City of Bushnell Charter (laws that govern the way the City does business) and recommend any changes to the City Council to be placed on a referendum vote for the November 8, 2016 election.

The Bushnell City Council has appointed a committee to review the City’s existing Charter. The first meeting will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 5:00 pm in the Bushnell City Council Chambers located at 117 E Joe P Strickland, JR., Ave. and will be attended by a representative of the Florida League of Cities, who will guide committee members on their given task of updating the Charter.

A Charter is the “operations manual” by which the local government runs the administrative functions of government. The purpose of the Charter review committee is to examine the City Charter and make suggestions for updates, amendments and changes that would make municipal government operations and policies more productive. All recommendations will be presented to City Council for review and approval. Changes would then be placed on a referendum to be voted on by the citizens of Bushnell during the 2016 general elections. All interested persons are encouraged to attend the Charter Review meeting.

Councilwoman Karen Davis was elected to the Bushnell City Council in 2014, and began her term of office in January 2015.  She is a long time resident of the Bushnell community, and graduated in the Class of 1978, and furthered her education by attending Brevard Community College.  Councilwoman Davis is married to Winston Davis Sr. and they have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. She began her career at Sumter County Association for Retarded Citizens (SCARC), Inc. in 1986, where she started out as a training specialist working with clients, and teaching them health and safety skills and how to adapt in the community. Councilwoman Davis is the manager of the two group homes which are owned by SCARC. She is very excited about the opportunity to serve the citizens of the Bushnell community.

The REPP (Regular Employee's Pension Plan) Board is made up of two legal residents that are appointed by City Council, two employees that are elected by members of the plan and one member at-large that is elected by the majority of the board.

This board meets quarterly and are the general administrators of the City of Bushnell retirement plan. Responsibilities include engaging actuarial accounting, legal and other services required to conduct business. The board authorizes all disbursements, determine eligibility for benefits, determine and certify benefits and disbursements. The board is responsible for the plan investments and compliance with state and federal guidelines and make recommendations to City Council on provisions regarding the plan.

The Evergreen Cemetery Board of Trustees consists of five (5) seats that are filled by residents and/or business property owners of the City. The Board of Trustees meet only when requests or concerns are submitted to the board for review and decision.

The City Manager is one of two charter officers appointed by the City Council. The City Manager’s responsibilities are the day-to-day administration of all departments and divisions of the City of Bushnell and include: planning, budgeting and operations of these departments and divisions. The City Manager is ultimately responsible for the enforcement of all municipal codes and negotiates all contracts to insure the most favorable outcome for the city. The City Manager reports directly to the City Council.

Mr. Bruce Hickle is currently the City Manager for the City of Bushnell. Mr. Hickle was appointed to this position by the Bushnell City Council after serving the citizens of Bushnell for over 10 years as the City's Utilities Director.
