Letter to the Customers of the City of Bushnell Regarding the Expansion of the Bushnell Electric System

The City of Bushnell values our customers, and we want you to know that our City Council is considering options to expand our electric utility to serve all of the people of Bushnell. We believe this growth is necessary to ensure that electric rates remain affordable in the future, and that growth comes largely from adding new customers. Bushnell’s electric utility has been serving our community for nearly 100 years, and has been a long-time partner in our community’s success. Our utility is one of the most reliable electric utilities in Florida, with the fewest number of outages and fastest response time to put the power back on when there is an outage.

Because of smart decisions by past City Councils, the City now has the legal right to acquire SECO’s poles and lines within the city limits and connect our own electric system to them. This would result in the customers now served by SECO within the city limits becoming Bushnell customers. It would also provide additional vacant lands for future development and electric load growth. In the coming months the City will be evaluating all options with respect to providing electric service within the City limits. Rest assured, any decision made by our City Council will be made thoughtfully ensuring the greatest good for the community as a whole.
