TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE SCHEDULED ON SR 48 BETWEEN I-75 AND LOWERY STREET

To ensure your safety and the safety of others, please exercise extra caution when driving through construction work zones.

SUMTER COUNTY - Beginning Thursday night, August 4, eastbound traffic on State Road (SR) 48 between the Interstate 75 (I-75) interchange and Lowery Street will be moved to the newly built pavements. Once the shift is complete, traffic will be restricted to the two outside lanes in both directions.

The pattern change is necessary to construct the median and improve safety as part of the I-75 widening project from the Hernando County/Sumter County line and County Road 470. All work will be contained within the inside travel lanes in both directions along the median.

This traffic pattern change will impact access to businesses along both sides of SR 48 (See map below). For example:

  *   Motorists will only be able to turn right when leaving Walmart out of the main driveway.
  *   Eastbound traffic needing to access businesses along the north side of SR 48 will have to make a U-turn at Lowery Street.
  *   Westbound traffic needing to access McDonald's or Bushnell Commons will have to either make a left turn into the Walmart driveway or make a U-turn west of I-75.

Once the median work is complete, the newly constructed inside lanes will open up for the final alignment in approximately one to two months.

Project updates will be posted to Florida Department of Transportation's Central Florida website,
